A Typical Crab House Menu

…includes related seafood items, cold beer or other beverages, crab cakes, fries and a burger or two…

Other than steamed crabs – of course – we also like good fresh made crab cakes (or crabcakes) and some steamed shrimp and some corn on the cob. We like the steamed shrimp with steamed onions all done in Old Bay (or similar) seasoning. All of this needs to be washed down by an ice cold beer or a fountain coke in a tall cup filled with ice.

For the non-seafood lover (who may be) in the group, there are usually an assortment of “other” foods. These usually include french fries and onion rings to go with the seafood. You will also find a hamburger or cheeseburger and maybe even a steak sub.

What else comes out of the crab steamers? All sorts of good eats – for one example – steamed shrimp…and more…of course…

Recipe: Steamed Maryland Blue Carbs

Do-It-Yourself has never tasted so good as with this easy recipe for steamed crabs. So, you want to know how to cook crabs? Here’s what it takes…

Ingredients:

Steamed Crabs with Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 dozen Maryland Blue Crabs
  • 1 cup beer (Don’t use an expensive brand. A simple Budweiser will do.)
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cups Old Bay Seasoning (or more if you like them spicy!)
  • MORE Old Bay Seasoning!

Directions:

  1. In a large pot, stir together the beer, white vinegar, and Old Bay seasoning.
  2. Place a steaming rack in the pot making sure that the steaming rack is above the liquid.
  3. Bring the liquid to a boil then place Maryland Blue Crabs in the pot on the steaming rack.
  4. Sprinkle your desired amount of Old Bay on top of the Maryland Blue Crabs.
  5. Cover and steam until they are done, approximately 20 minutes (for large crabs). You will be able to tell if they are done because they will be bright orange in color instead of blue/green.

Variations:

  • You may wish to use 1 cup of water in place of the cup of beer. However, true Marylanders use the beer.

Tips:

  • The best way to eat Maryland Steamed Blue Crabs in to expect to get messy! Lay down some newspaper or brown craft paper, get out some knives and mallets (used in helping to open the crabs and to get the meat out, and enjoy!
  • Wait until the crabs have just started to cool down to a comfortable temperature for touching them and that is the time when you will have your best shot at pulling big chunks of crab meat out when you pull the legs off.
  • You may choose to serve Maryland Crabs with little cups of melted butter or extra Old Bay Seasoning for dipping.
  • Marylanders love to have their steamed crabs with fried chicken and corn on the cob on the side.

Location, location, location – right?

Port Covington Real Estate Domain Header

The first iteration of a website with this domain, PortCovingtonRealEstate.com, was put online back on February 16, 2006. The domain, itself, was registered a year earlier in February, 2005. That makes this domain “very old” in Internet time. But the saying is – “Good things come to those who wait” – right? Web developers also understand that “old” domains get a boost in the search engines – so waiting is not a bad thing.

Once a railroad terminal, Port Covington is being redeveloped into a brand new, prime mixed-use city neighborhood on the waterfront in Baltimore, Maryland. In May 2019 ground was broken for the development of the Port Covington region of Baltimore, Maryland. This 230 +/- acre parcel is becoming a whole new section of Baltimore. It is, currently, the largest urban renewal project along the East Coast of the United States.

This website, Port Covington Real Estate, can be a point of information about the development of the area and what it may mean to future tenants and property owners. We are not, I repeat, we are not real estate agents, Realtors, real estate brokers or property investors or developers. What we are amounts to a local family happy to see positive growth in “our city” that has been so bereft with problems. If we can help point you in the direction of professional real estate services then so much the better.

The domain name, PortCovingtonRealEstate.com may be for sale. If you are interested in acquiring this valuable Internet property send an email to Bill (at) SouthBaltimore.com or leave a statement in the comments below.
